Learn more about government’s intention to modernize the museum to protect our historic holdings and provide better access to our collections.
Join us and our friends at Streamable Learning as we imagine going to sleep and not waking up for months! This is just what certain animals do in order to be safe, dry and warm during the coldest time of the year. During this session, we’ll explore animals like bears and marmots, and gently elbow our way (so to speak) into their dens to learn why and how they hibernate. We will look at displays in the Royal BC Museum galleries, investigate specimens in the Royal BC Museum collection, and at the end we’ll share a sleepy, bedtime story.

We provide the paper, pens, envelopes and even the stamps - you write the letter. Stop by our letter writing station on the third floor mezzanine, January 2 - 7 between 11 AM and 3PM and reacquaint yourself with the lost art of letter writing. Maybe you'll write a thank-you note to your Aunt, a teacher or a query to your local representative. Who knows, the letter you write could one day become part of our future archives.

In addition to low lighting and low volume throughout, doors will be left open and movement and discussion during the film will not be restricted. This film is in 2D, no special glasses required. Now in its sixteenth year, the Carol-Along is getting a freshening-up! We added some new songs alongside your favourite ones from years past. But don't worry, the Newcombe Singers will be there to lead you and as always, our carillonneur Rosemary Laing will be playing tunes from atop the Netherlands Centennial Carillon Tower.
This year, the Carol-Along will be a part of the new WinterFest activities. Come enjoy a variety of vendors and take part in a little carolling!
The Royal BC Museum botany collection consists of more than 215,000 dried plant specimens housed in our herbarium. The botany collection is one of the two largest reference collections of BC plants in the world and is frequently visited by researchers, consultants, government biologists, students and in this case by interested members of the public. Using the collection for inspiration, we will use photocopy images to create simple watercolour images to make gift tags and cards to share this holiday season.
The Royal BC Museum, with support from our partners, is proud to present the first annual WinterFest outdoor multicultural holiday market, December 2 and 3.
Celebrating arts, culture and community, WinterFest brings together the best parts of the holiday season. Food, warm drinks and multicultural performances pair with local vendors for a one-of-a-kind experience.
