Royal BC Museum continues Family Day fun—virtually!

VICTORIA, BC—On February 15, the Royal BC Museum will continue its tradition of Family Day fun with online programming designed to engage British Columbians of all ages.
“At a time when we could all use something special to look forward to, we’re delighted to have this opportunity to virtually welcome an even broader audience than usual this Family Day,” says Janet MacDonald, Head of Learning. “Our Learning, Exhibitions and IMAX teams have gone all out to create five new virtual programs that are sure to deliver a memorable Family Day experience—wherever you are in BC.”
The public can visit rbcm.ca/familyday to review the day’s digital offerings, which include:
Behind the Scenes of Orcas: Enjoy an exclusive sneak peek into the making of the highly anticipated feature exhibition Orcas: Our Shared Future, led by Dr. Gavin Hanke, curator of vertebrate zoology, and his tiny curatorial assistant – his daughter.
Animal Portraits for Kids: Learn about the animals of BC, then journey back in time to draw a portrait of our famous mascot, Woolly the Mammoth, with instruction from art educator Jeri Engen.
Family Recipes: Take part in a mouth-watering conversation about family food traditions, and add a few new dishes to your repertoire.
A Walk in the Park: Join learning program developer Liz Crocker and BC Parks community liaison officer Natasha Ewing for a virtual visit to rainforests in Goldstream Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, and the Ancient Forest/Chun T’oh Whudujut Provincial Park near Prince George.
Virtual IMAX Humpback Whales: Curl up on the couch together for an at-home IMAX experience. Virtual chat is welcome: facilitators from the Royal BC Museum will be online to answer questions during the film.
While there is no cost for the virtual Family Day offerings, advance registration is required.
