Insect Camouflage with Dr. Joel Gibson

For insects, the best way to not get eaten is to not be seen. Join Entomology Curator Dr. Joel Gibson as he talks about insect camouflage. Have drawing supplies ready, as he will show you how to make your own hidden insect.

Behind the Scenes with Chelsea Clark

Galleries in the museum are just the tip of the iceberg- the majority of what museums do happens behind the scenes! Royal BC Museum volunteer Chelsea Clark explores the purpose of a natural history collection, and describes the process of what happens when an animal is brought into the collection. The session will including sketching of a skull.

Join our seaside safari in search of Sculpins, Clingfish, Snailfish, and Soles. RBCM @ Home (Office Hours) is support just for educators (including parents at home)! Royal BC Museum learning staff will be on hand at each session to walk educators through the museum and archives’ online resources and answer questions.  RBCM @ Home (Office Hours) takes place every second Monday and Friday. We’ll offer live support through Zoom and by phone during Office Hours.

More time this summer at home in beautiful British Columbia means more time with nature. You can share nature with children on a sidewalk, in a yard, a park, a beach or even from a window. You don’t have to be an expert, just curious. You don’t have to like spiders, snakes or slugs, just appreciate them. Making Zines with Ray and Genevieve

Learn how to make zines with Ray, a Grade 3 student from Victoria, and his mom Genevieve, an archivist at the BC Archives. These homemade self-published works are a creative way to express yourself and record your experiences during this time.
