Maker Saturday: Cities of the Future

Make a playdate and come to the Royal BC Museum. Maker Saturday is an family friendly interactive, learning-based special event that happens on the third Saturday of the month until the end of August. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math themes will play out in our core or feature exhibitions. You are welcome to drop in and participate in one or all of the activities being offered.

Cities of the Future

What should our future cities look like? Join us in Old Town to discover innovative engineering principles and flex your problem-solving skills.

Drop in activities include:

Magnetic trains – learn how magnets can help reduce the energy required to move a train

Model towns – while building a model town, participants will be encouraged to think about many of the factors that need to be considered to make cities sustainable

Building facades - Measure the temperature inside two different houses and learn how different building materials can help to keep houses cool

Energy memory game – flip over cards and find matching pairs to learn the positives and negatives of different types of energy sources

Play a large game of “mousetrap’ and see how changes to our natural environment can make it difficult for biodiversity to thrive
