Canadian Modern: Meet Ay Lelum The Good House of Design

The exhibition Canadian Modern highlights the experimentation, innovation and ingenuity behind over 100 culturally significant objects created in Canada. Objects include furniture, ceramics, electronics and fashion with local ties right here on Vancouver Island. One of these local ties is the multi-generational Artist Family from Ay Lelum The Good House of Design. This lecture will feature Aunalee Boyd-Good, a Director, Designer and one of the creative forces behind Ay Lelum, and her father Dr. William Good ts’usqinuxun’, a Master Coast Salish Artist and Carver, Storyteller, Elder and Hereditary Chief from Snuneymuxw First Nation. Their art and design of a woman’s jacket and face mask are displayed in the Canadian Modern exhibition. Learn about their Coast Salish Fashions made on Snuneymuxw First Nation in Nanaimo, BC and how they create all-inclusive wearable fashion with family designs.
