Live @ Lunch: The Great War and BC Photography

Free noon-hour talks on the first Wednesday of the month feature curators and researchers working at the Royal BC Museum.

Curator of Images Don Bourdon brings the perspective of BC photographers into focus with surprising and touching images from the First World War.

When war broke out in 1914, British Columbians answered the call of king and country. 55,570 of them served in the 620,000-strong Canadian Expeditionary Force, and for the first time, photographic technology allowed civilians and the enlisted to photograph their journeys to the battlefield and back—sometimes in violation of rules prohibiting the use of cameras. Join Don Bourdon, curator of images and paintings, in a noon-hour exploration of British Columbians’ war photography, featuring images drawn from the BC Archives collections.
