Modernization
Learn more about government’s intention to modernize the museum to protect our historic holdings and provide better access to our collections.
Inspired by the release of The Object’s the Thing: The Writings of Yorke Edwards – A Pioneer of Heritage Interpretation in Canada, join Interpretation Canada and the Royal BC Museum for a discussion of mentorship in the field of heritage interpretation. Some of us can trace our interpretation lineage to Yorke Edwards. Some of us have been mentored by elders, knowledge keepers, professors, or colleagues. Who are your mentors in interpretation? What have they taught you?
After authors Dr. Richard Kool and Dr. Robert Cannings introduce us to the work and legacy of Yorke Edwards, we’ll name our own mentors and influences and consider what advice they might have for us in 2021. Whatever kind of interpreter, educator or communicator you are, we hope you’ll join us to add to a greater shared understanding of heritage interpretation history in Canada. You’ll leave with an appreciation for your own mentors and those of others as you network with and hear from diverse voices currently working in interpretation across Canada. One lucky attendee will win a free copy of The Object’s the Thing: The Writings of Yorke Edwards – A Pioneer of Heritage Interpretation in Canada. Learn more about Yorke Edwards in this video with author Rick Kool here.
