Calling all educators.
The Royal BC Museum, the Historical Thinking Project, and Canada's History are collaborating on the first ever Historical Thinking Winter Institute. This two day professional development opportunity will involve workshops, learning activities and small group discussions to enrich your teaching practice. By utilizing the Royal BC Museum and Archives exhibitions, primary sources, and artifacts, participants will deepen their understanding of six historical thinking concepts: evidence and interpretations, historical significance, continuity & change, cause & consequence, historical perspective, and the ethical dimension of history.
Historical thinking is now a foundation for social studies curricula in B.C. and across the country and internationally, and museum and heritage educators are similarly embracing it. At its theoretical core historical thinking is a critical approach to the design and development of school history curricula and resources, and historical museum exhibits and educational programs.
10 spots will be set aside for students/ pre-service teachers, at a reduced price of $100 (plus GST). More information is on the registration page.
