Bridging Victoria: Stories from the Archaeological Past

This free pop-up event will showcase three never-before-exhibited local archaeology collections. Handle artifacts and learn what bottles and ceramics from Chinatown, woodworking from the old Songhees Village (Esquimalt), and military objects from the depths of Esquimalt harbour can add to our knowledge of the past. The exhibit will also include incredibly preserved organic material like leather shoes and basketry — rare and invaluable finds in archaeology!

Students from the Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria will present interactive, digital and hands-on storytelling to engage visitors of all ages in thinking about what’s underfoot in Victoria and how archaeology can add to our understandings of the diverse communities who have transformed the southern tip of Vancouver Island.
