Reproduction of Still Images, Cartographic Records and Sound Recordings
Thank you for your interest in the Royal BC Museum and BC Archives collections. To obtain a reproduction from the still images, cartographic records and/or sound recordings collections, please complete and submit this form.
Please note - You will receive an initial response to reproduction requests within 30 business days. Requests for Indigenous material may take longer as the Indigenous Collections department has many requests to review. We appreciate your patience.
We are not accepting any requests that require digitizing for moving images/films until after the move to Royal Bay in 2026.
The Copyright Act applies to materials that are part of Royal BC Museum and Archives collections; this includes but is not limited to still images, documents, cartographic records, sound recordings and moving images. Copies provided by the Royal BC Museum and Archives may only be used for the purpose of research or private study, and any use of the copy for a purpose other than research or private study may require you to obtain the authorization of the copyright owner of the work in question.
The RBCM endorses Article 31 of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA). Please note that some archival material may be culturally sensitive. It is your responsibility to seek permission to use records from the community and/or cultural rights holder of the record. Please treat records with care and consider the cultural protocols of the people and places depicted as you use them.
Digital copies - clients/researchers have the option of downloading the low-resolution online photos from the BC Archives website at no cost, or a higher resolution digital copy of the photo may be purchased. The cost is $20.00 plus applicable tax per file. Some material may require digitization first before copies can be provided. Sound recordings are $40 plus applicable tax.
