New childminding program gives grown-ups a timeout for learning!

There’s no question the Royal BC Museum is a great place to bring the kids. Except, you know, when it isn’t—like during an adults-only learning event. This fall, we’ve found the fix: the Parallel Play Childminding program.

This isn’t mere babysitting—it’s a learning program in its own right. The programming has an age-appropriate theme that parallels the adult events. For example, during a recent Happy Hour on the theme of craft beer-making, the Parallel Play group learned about the fermentation process by making kombucha.

“The programming is run by a trained museum educator,” notes Learning Program Developer Chris O’Connor. “It pairs the convenience of museum childminding with unique and quality learning activities.”

You can find a complete list of all the Happy Hour and It’s Complicated events where Parallel Play is available in our new Fall/Winter program guide.  Registration is required, and the program accommodates kids from age three to 10. The cost is $15 per child for each one-and-a-half-hour session.
