VICTORIA, BC— The board of directors of the Royal BC Museum announced today that Tracey Drake has been appointed as the chief executive officer of the Royal BC Museum, effective March 1, 2024, for a term up to December 31, 2025.
This new term appointment provides increased organizational stability, and by assuming the CEO role until a permanent CEO is appointed, Drake will continue to focus on internal cultural transformation, team capacity and resourcing.
“Based on Tracey’s exceptional progress, we are removing the ‘acting’ from her title,” says Leslie Brown, board chair. “It has become clear to the board, as well as those working closely with Tracey, that she continues to be the leader to guide the museum and add stability and vision for what is an exciting time of growth, along with important community and provincewide consultation.”
As CEO, Drake oversees Royal BC Museum operations, BC Archives, and IMAX® Victoria, as well as the critical work underway with provincewide community engagement, repatriation, DRIPA implementation, and the archives, research and collections building project in Colwood. Drake began her career at the Royal BC Museum as the head of marketing and communications before being promoted to vice president of Strategic Operations in 2022.
Since stepping into her acting CEO role last August, Drake has produced significant results in community relationship building as well as important progress on the archives, collections and research building project, all while moving the Royal BC Museum’s complex mandates forward with clear direction. Last month, Drake announced that the Royal BC Museum will host a diverse slate of feature exhibitions for 2024, including the return of a forever favourite with Wildlife Photographer of the Year, another mysterious marvel of the ancient world with Stonehenge and a look at a modern approach to the everyday with Canadian Modern.
