VICTORIA, BC — On Monday, February 19, the Royal BC Museum—in partnership with CHEK—is opening its doors to the public for admission by donation for people of all ages. IMAX® Victoria will also be offering free entry to documentary films all day long for children, youth, students and seniors.
“Community is at the heart of all we do, and we are thrilled to provide another financially accessible opportunity this year for families to visit the museum and IMAX® Victoria,” said Tracey Drake, CEO of the Royal BC Museum. “Between the lineup of incredible films and the educational learning programs scheduled throughout the day, there really is something for everyone this Family Day.”
Kick the day off by immersing yourself in the museum’s galleries by stepping into the past with Old Town, New Approach, get up close and personal with the province’s furry, feathery and fishy residents in the Natural History gallery or dig into prehistoric British Columbia with “Buster”, the Iron Lizard of the Sustut River at the homegrown exhibit, Dinosaurs of BC.
Additional Family Day learning programs will run throughout the day to give you even more opportunities to discover the province’s most fascinating residents. Learn about the incredible diversity of animals that call BC home in the Mammal Learning Room, or swing by the Tidal Pool to chat with volunteers about the wide variety of life found in the Salish Sea. While you’re at it, brush up on your family tree with the BC Archives at the “Ask an Archivist” table.
See films that span the globe at IMAX® Victoria. Shackleton: The Greatest Story of Survival, Blue Whales: Return of the Giants, Fungi: The Web of Life, and Deep Sky will be running all day. Check imaxvictoria.com for the full schedule.
While you’re on-site, don’t forget to pick up your free Family Day activity guide for an extra dose of fun. Packed with activities and fascinating facts, it's the perfect companion for a day of exploration. Historic Helmcken House, the oldest house in BC still located on its original site, will also be open to visitors between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Lastly, don’t miss your chance to visit the final day of the annual Mammoth Sale. The Mammoth Sale runs from February 9 to Family Day. Save 20 to 75 per cent storewide at the Royal Museum Shop and also check out an incredible assortment of unique props and display items.
