Royal BC Museum welcomes new Board Chair
VICTORIA, BC— The Royal BC Museum welcomes Leslie Brown, PhD, as the new Chair of its Board of Directors.
Brown is a Professor Emerita at the University of Victoria. She has degrees in public administration and social work and has built a career on a commitment to community engagement and accountability. Her research and scholarly interests are in Indigenous child welfare and governance, housing and homelessness, social innovation and Indigenous and community-based research methodologies.
“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Leslie Brown to the RBCM board of directors as elected board chair,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. “Leslie’s public engagement expertise and extensive experience working with Indigenous communities will bring valuable insight to the museum as it undertakes broad public engagement. I look forward to working with Leslie on advancing our shared priorities.”
Brown held several administrative positions at UVIC including Director of the School of Social Work, Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Human and Social Development, Advisor to the Provost on Community Engagement and Director of the Institute in Studies and Innovation in Community-University Engagement. She is currently co-chair of The Living Lab Project, a community-university-schools initiative connecting eco-cultural restoration, science education and Indigenous knowledge, and treasurer of the Salish Sea Housing Society.
