Science Saturday, in partnership with Let’s Talk Science, is a family-friendly event offering engaging, hands-on activities throughout the museum’s Natural History Gallery. 

This drop-in interactive afternoon is designed to spark curiosity and foster a love for science, inviting participants of all ages to explore various scientific concepts through experiments, demonstrations, and fun immersive experiences.

Canadian Modern: Meet Ay Lelum The Good House of Design

The exhibition Canadian Modern highlights the experimentation, innovation and ingenuity behind over 100 culturally significant objects created in Canada. Objects include furniture, ceramics, electronics and fashion with local ties right here on Vancouver Island. One of these local ties is the multi-generational Artist Family from Ay Lelum The Good House of Design. This lecture will feature Aunalee Boyd-Good, a Director, Designer and one of the creative forces behind Ay Lelum, and her father Dr.

Beyond Stonehenge: Camosun College Pop-up Exhibit

Though the reasons behind Stonehenge's construction remain a mystery, evidence suggests it served as a site for the interment of cremated remains for at least 500 years. As Winter Solstice approaches, join students from Camosun College’s Anthropology of Death class for an insightful exploration into burial traditions and landscapes of the dead (necrogeographies). Don’t miss this opportunity for a memorable learning experience.

Gather under the Netherlands Centennial Carillon for a unique caroling celebration with friends, family, and fellow singers. Enjoy the carillon music performed by Provincial Carillonneur Rosemary Laing and join the Newcombe Choir as they lead the carol singing. Warm up with hot chocolate and cookies as we come together to brighten the season.

Join us for a 30-minute guided tour Natural History gallery, where British Columbia’s rich and diverse natural heritage comes to life. This tour will take you on a journey through time and across the varied landscapes of the province.

Step back into the Ice Age and meet our iconic Woolly Mammoth. See the largest elk in North America in the forest diorama and listen to the sounds of the crashing waves of the coastline in the seashore diorama.

Music at the Museum: The Pandora Chorus

The Pandora Chorus is a non-auditioned indie pop rock choir, founded in 2015 by director Glenna Garramone. The Pandora Chorus  makes music and harmony together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. They will be singing songs from their Fall session, including songs by Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Journey, and more! Accompanied on keyboard by Brooke Maxwell.

Join us for this free performance in the main lobby of the museum.

Surviving Winter

Designed for ages 4 to 9

Mammals have developed a variety of strategies to survive the harsh winter months. Some stockpile food during the summer and rely on their thick, fuzzy coats to stay warm. Others migrate to milder climates or hibernate through the cold. Join us as we explore specimens from the Royal BC Museum collection with Anna, our Collection Manager of Birds and Mammals, to uncover how different mammals stay safe and cozy during the chilliest time of the year. We'll wrap up the program with a heartwarming winter story.

The Man Who Adapted Christmas: Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol receives one man treatment courtesy of Charles Ross.

It’s Ebenezer Scrooge’s story of reclamation—the tale that launched a thousand spin-offs—irreverently adapted and presented in Old Town. Starring the One Star Wars Trilogy/One Man Pride and Prejudice, Charles Ross. Directed by mime master, Trent Arterberry. Both artists have delighted audiences worldwide and they are equally delighted to premiere this adaptation for you this holiday season.
