Is religion incompatible with science? How can we find a balance between faith and science, and should we even try? Join our panel of conversation starters who will share their experiences before opening up the discussion to hear more about yours. 

For select adult-focused events this year, we will be providing childminding as a support for families. The childminding will be hosted in the Royal BC Museum’s Learning Centre, and the activities will be related in an age-appropriate way to the theme of the adult event.

Guest Speaker: Cathy Converse

Agnes Deans Cameron (1863-1912) was an author, journalist, educator, school trustee, sportswoman, orator, adventurer, and international celebrity. She was one of British Columbia’s first female high school teachers and first school principal, and during her lifetime became one of Canada’s most well-known writers, publishing in the top international magazines and newspapers. Cameron stands as one of the top 150 most significant individuals in the history of the province of British Columbia.

Join us on the second Thursday of the month for themed events and activities for adults. Drinks and light fare are available for purchase. Events are limited to designated galleries and are not museum-wide.

Explore the history of brewing in BC along with members from the Campaign for Real Ale Victoria in the Old Town, Modern History gallery.

Mayan Agriculture: resilience and contemporary challenges

Lorenzo Magzul, a Mayan from Guatamala, will address sustainable Mayan agricultural practices from thousands of years ago and how they continue to thrive in the highlands of Guatemala, however, contemporary challenges like globalization and climate change are testing the resiliency of these practices.

Join “Detectives” Crocker and Saini on the Royal BC Museum’s brand new True Crime Tour. From frontier murders to 1920’s trials, learn about fascinating real crime stories from BC history. This surprisingly funny tour travels throughout the Becoming BC Gallery.

Everyone is welcome to belly-up to the local saloon in Old Town, located in our Becoming BC exhibition, for some musical fun with our player piano and to learn about the history of alcohol in British Columbia. 

From the fascinating to the scandalous, this short performance spans the decades from the golden age of saloons to the prohibition.
