Beautiful Badgers, in collaboration with the Greater Victoria Public Library
Depending on where you live in BC, you might have never seen a badger in person. Badgers live in the grasslands and dry forests of the interior of BC, and like to move around at night. So they are kind of hard to spot.
But easier to spot if you are reading kid’s books. From Wind in the Willows to the Frances the Badger books, our stripy-faced friends make for good characters.
Sharks are some of the most fascinating, most ecologically important, most threatened, and most misunderstood animals on Earth. While many people are afraid of sharks, you should be afraid for sharks, as many species face extinction.
Join marine biologist and author Dr. David Shiffman for an engaging talk full of mind-blowing facts, adventures from a career studying sharks, and important information about these animals that desperately need our help.
A trip to IMAX Victoria to see Tom Cruise's largest grossing movie ever, Top Gun: Maverick, just took to new heights!
On Saturday July 30 2022, from 5:30pm until the screening starts at 7:15pm, movie-goers will be treated to a unique aeronautical experience. Join us for a free event where former fighter pilots Norm MacSween, Dan Dempsey, Ken Lett, Bob Saunders and Greg Matte will be on hand for a meet and greet to chat about their air force experiences.
Backyard Biodiversity, in collaboration with the Greater Victoria Public Library
While looking at our backyards, it might all seem calm and uneventful. But if we look a little closer, we start to see an environment teeming with life. Under the ground and up in the trees (and everywhere in between), animals and plants are crawling, hopping, slithering, flying, hovering, absorbing the suns rays and doing all they can to survive.
Join us in Clifford Carl Hall, on the ground floor of the Museum, on Saturday July 23 from 1:00 - 6:00pm, as Indigenous artists share their works.
The travelling exhibition, Our Living Languages: First Peoples' Voices in BC, is also on display and available to explore.
Among the talented Indigenous artists attending is Laxiya, Dave Bodaly, a cedar weaver from Snuneymuxw First Nation. His work is featured in the image above, and he kindly shared some words on his heritage and his craft with us:

Adad Hannah creates epochal, serial artworks in installation, video and photography. In March 2020, while Canadians retreated to their homes, Hannah took to the streets to capture this moment in time. Over the course of a year, Hannah created 237 video portraits showcasing the rapid evolution of our everyday lives.
As the day draws to a close, it is a magical time to be outside. The daytime creatures are preparing for a night of rest and the nighttime creatures are starting to stir. Join us for an evening exploration of bat habitats with a CRD Regional Parks naturalist at Elk/Beaver Regional Park. We can’t guarantee it, but we might see bats swoop through the air to feed. Did you know they can eat up to 1000 flying insects in an hour?
