Cat train hauling wood

A Cat train hauling lumber across Yellowknife Bay in the 1930s. Wood was a particularly scarce commodity in Yellowknife, with most of it being cut and hauled by Cat train from the south shore of Great Slave Lake. Wood was used as mine timbers, to fire boilers and for domestic heating by families living in camps. Note the improvised cabin to protect the driver from the winter elements.
