Looking for a better way to link Prince Edward Island to the mainland, officials decided that the Canadian National Railways would offer continued rail service using the ferry system that connected Port Borden, PEI, to Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick. Here, the railway approach is being constructed in Borden to allow train cars to be loaded onto the ferries. The inscription on back of original photograph reads “The Car Ferry Terminals at Port Borden, PE. The 1700 stone approach nearly finished.” (1,700 stone is about 23,800 pounds, or 10.8 tonnes.)
