One of the largest obstacles faced by the Prince Edward Island Railway was the heavy and drifting snow. Substantial snowfalls often paralysed the railways, leaving would-be passengers and parcels stranded at nearby stations. While certain engines were equipped with snowplows, it would frequently take manual effort to shovel a clear and safe path for the trains. Here is an image depicting one such instance, as a group of men shovel snow from in front of a Canadian National Railways snowplow train.
