Prepayment is required for all copy orders. You can pay by cash, credit card, certified cheque or money order, or by secure online payment link.
All fees are subject to change without notice. For security reasons, please do not send credit card information by email (including in any attachments).
It may take 20-30 business days to process your order, dependent on current request volumes. Please note we are not accepting any requests that require digitizing for moving images/films until after the move to Royal Bay in 2026.
Digital copies - clients/researchers have the option of downloading the low-resolution online photos from the BC Archives website at no cost or a higher resolution digital copy of the photo may be purchased. The cost is $20.00 per file. Please note that some photographic material may require digitization first before copies can be provided.
This price list includes prices for textual, photo, map, audio and film reproductions, as well as delivery options.
The Copyright Act applies to materials that are part of Royal BC Museum and Archives collections; this includes but is not limited to still images, documents, cartographic records, sound recordings and moving images. Copies provided by the Royal BC Museum and Archives may only be used for the purpose of research or private study, and any use of the copy for a purpose other than research or private study may require you to obtain the authorization of the copyright owner of the work in question.
The RBCM endorses Article 31 of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA). Please note that some archival material may be culturally sensitive. It is your responsibility to seek permission to use records from the community and/or cultural rights holder of the record. Please treat records with care, and consider the cultural protocols of the people and places depicted as you use them.
Please use the following credit line when using images of archival material:

The Patron shall place the credit line in the applicable location:
Published Materials: the credit line shall be on the same page or the page facing the Image or on a separate photo credits page. Each image must be credited and include a call number or catalogue number from the BC Archives.
Films, Filmstrips and Video Presentations: the credit line shall be located in the program tail credits.
Exhibitions: the credit shall be located in the exhibition area either directly below or adjacent to the Image.
Web use: the credit shall be located either adjacent to the image or in a “Sources of Illustrations/Images” section.

The BC Archives permits the photographic copying of archival material, based on the physical condition of the materials, copyright law, donor restrictions, and reference room rules. Digital, film, phone, computer, and tablet cameras may be used.
