A Message on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Release

The Royal BC Museum is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming space for all our visitors. As the COVID-19 situation evolves the museum is committed to understanding the facts and ensuring we respond appropriately.

The Royal BC Museum has received direction from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture that the museum precinct should close to the public.  This direction affects the operations of all our onsite partners; Mungo Martin House, the Archives of the Sisters of St. Ann, the Royal Museum Shop, Sequoia Coffee, IMAX Victoria Theatre, BC Museums Association on-site office, and the food trucks. We thank all our partners for their understanding during this time.

Until we can welcome you back, we encourage you to visit the museum and archives virtually:

We look forward to getting back to our regularly scheduled programming as soon as it is reasonable to do so.

We understand that our temporary closure affects our visitors, members, staff and volunteers. We are taking steps to minimize the impacts as much as possible.

If you have already purchased tickets to visit the Royal BC Museum and were planning to use them in the immediate future or have tickets to an upcoming event, please contact our box office team  at 250-356-7226 to receive a refund.

Any members with questions about the temporary closure can reach out to our membership department at membership@royalbcmuseum.bc.ca.

Our staff will continue to carry out our work and respond to the public through digital channels.

What you can do

We strongly encourage you to follow proper hygiene etiquette. The World Health Organization recommends that individuals:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
  • When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw the tissue away immediately and wash hands.
  •  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough.

To learn more about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), visit the BC Centre for Disease Control’s website or the Government of British Columbia’s website. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, you should contact your primary care provider, local public health office or call the novel coronavirus telephone information line at 1-833-784-4397.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they available.  We look forward to welcoming you back to the Royal BC Museum soon.
