VICTORIA, BC—Ring in the holiday season and create new memories at the Royal BC Museum with a number of family-friendly events throughout December.

From last minute local gifts and enjoying holiday traditions like carolling to getting a photo taken with Father Christmas, the Royal BC Museum’s holiday program has something for everyone.

Indigenous Artist Market

Looking for a unique shopping experience in time for the holidays? Visit the Indigenous Artist Winter Market for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Find beautiful bespoke pieces and speak with the artists who craft them. Free admission; food and drinks available for purchase.

When: December 2 and 3, 10 AM–4 PM

Where: Clifford Carl Hall on the ground floor of the Royal BC Museum

The Polar Express at IMAX® Victoria

Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis reunite for The Polar Express, an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.

When: Opens December 3

Cosy up for an extra special PJ Party screening on December 17.

The Carillon Carol-Along

Gather under the Netherlands Centennial Carillon with your fellow singers, family and friends for a one-of-a-kind carolling party. The carillon will be played by Provincial Carillonneur Rosemary Laing and the Newcombe Singers will be gathered below to lead the carol singing. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served to make the season bright.

When: December 4, 4:15–5:00 PM

The Grinch at IMAX® Victoria

Based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic, The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. This uplifting movie will have the whole family giggling.

When: December 8 – 11, 7:15 PM

Photos with Father Christmas

Father Christmas is back for a short time and is inviting guests to sit for heart-warming holiday photos in the front room of historic Helmcken House. See the good doctor’s former living room as it would have looked during the height of the Victorian era while you sit for a pic with old Saint Nick. Photographs are $5.

When: December 10, 11, 17, 18, 11 AM–2 PM

*Please note that photos with Father Christmas required booked tickets as Helmken House is a historic site. This is to ensure that foot traffic flows safely through Helmcken House.

Music at the Museum: The Pandora Chorus
The Pandora Chorus is a non-auditioned indie pop rock choir, founded and directed by BC-based singer/songwriter Glenna Garramone. Join them for an afternoon of music from their fall session, including songs by Dua Lipa, Imogen Heap, Fleetwood Mac, Maggie Rogers and more.

When: December 17, 3:00–3:30 PM
