Enjoy Family Day with an array of activities at the Royal BC Museum, BC Archives and IMAX® Victoria

Release

VICTORIA, BC — Building on the success of last year’s family-centric digital programming, the Royal BC Museum is expanding its 2023 Family Day offerings to include free admission to the museum and IMAX® Victoria for children, youth, students and seniors, as well as a host of no-cost virtual programs for everyone.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Province of British Columbia, the Royal BC Museum and IMAX® Victoria are expanding their Family Day offerings to include a number of on-site and digital programs and learning opportunities.

Visitors can enjoy fiddle, flamenco and jazz music in Clifford Carl Hall throughout the day, and tours of the historic Helmcken House, one of the oldest houses in BC to still sit on its original site. These activities are free for everyone.

Digital visitors can enjoy a three-part webinar, Behind the Scenes of the Museum, hosted by members of the museum’s Learning team, and will have access to Learning Portal programs, as always, including our newest pathway, Vietnamese Canadian Experiences in BC.

If you find yourself on-site, make sure to check out the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition, the Natural History gallery, and a special slate of Family Day films at IMAX® Victoria, including the return of IMAX classics Pandas and Flight of the Butterflies.

Visitors are also encouraged to register for one of two special genealogy workshops hosted at the BC Archives. Covering such key topics as the top 10 record types you should search when building your family tree, how to navigate archival processes, and accessing restricted records, Finding Family at the BC Archives is a fantastic first step for those interested in learning more about their roots.
