Helmcken House
Welcome to the historic home of John and Cecelia Helmcken. Built in 1852 this house grew in stages, like the family who lived in it. A small log cabin with three rooms that shared a common chimney was built out of squared logs by Fort Victoria employees for the couple as a wedding present in 1852.

As the children were born, the home was expanded with the addition of a dining room and two small bedrooms upstairs. Finally about 1885 the Victorian extension, with its parlour and kitchen and front porch was added. For over a hundred and fifty years this house has existed, while the landscape around it was transformed into the city of today. We hope you enjoy your visit today. |
