The Helmcken House Museum houses a wonderful collection of artifacts that document early Victoria. The medical collection of Dr Helmcken and early fur trade artifacts are only a small portion of those on display in the House. Many of these are artifacts relate to the early art and domestic life in Victoria before 1900. Some demonstrate the range of artistic crafts that were practiced by the daughters of the house, although only in a few cases we know who the creators were, but they do include another of James and Amelia Douglas’ daughters, Martha Harris.
