Online
Activities
There are three online activities for the
Thunderbird Park site that highlight some of the museum’s archival collections. A hand operated
printing press and samples of Victoria newspapers printed on it during
the 1850's provide the starting place for a newspaper writing activity,
where you write, proof and edit articles and advertisements for a revised
edition of the December 11, 1858 British Colonist. Dr. Helmcken’s
19th century collection of medical instruments is the basis for an exploration
of early medical technology in which you draw, predict and identify commonly
used tools of the trade. The third activity introduces Songhees and Esquimalt
First Nations’ turn of the century fishing technology by allowing
you to “fish” for both salmon and cod.
