Young woman woodworking

Date:

The subject of this photograph is an unidentified young woman taking a woodworking course at Okanagan College in Kelowna in 1970. It is very illustrative of the period, especially the changing roles and attitudes about what constituted a suitable education for a woman.

The photo was taken for the Provincial Media Education Centre – which produced promotional and educational material for the BC government – and would have been intended to show how progressive the BC Education system had become. The psychedelic styling of her dress makes it easy to date this photo!
