Tim Paul was the fourth Master Carver at Thunderbird Park, taking the position following Richard Hunt’s departure in 1986.

Tim Paul was born in 1950 at Esperanza Inlet on Vancouver Island’s west coast. After working at several jobs, including logging and leading a First Nations cultural program, Paul joined the Royal BC Museum Anthropology staff in 1974.

 
He transferred to the museum’s carving program in 1977 and worked as assistant carver to Richard Hunt until 1986. Paul created outstanding works of art and adeptly demonstrated First Nations culture to visitors until he left the museum in 1992. Since then, Paul has exhibited widely and produced a range of remarkable art works in a variety of media. He is one of the most important and innovative Nuu-chah-nulth artists working today.
