Edward John Hughes (1913-2007) studied at the Vancouver School of Applied Art and Design under F.H. Varley, J.W.G. MacDonald and C.H. Scott. Hughes was a commercial artist and muralist. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy in 1968, received the Order of Canada in 2001 and the Order of British Columbia in 2005. His paintings form part of major collections, public and private.
